Alex Muccio, LCSW, (She/Her)

Licensed CERTIFIED Social Worker

Accepting new clients - Telehealth

Alex’s philosophy is that you know yourself best, and her goal as a therapist is to help you build that understanding further and apply it to seeking what you need to heal and thrive. She believes that it’s important that you feel comfortable and safe to show up as your authentic self, and brings a gentle, genuine approach to connecting with you to do so.

Alex is passionate about working with adults (18+) with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, stress, & executive dysfunction. She has specialized training and experience working with queer, autistic/neurodivergent, and disabled folks. She understands that mental health care has not traditionally been supportive of marginalized people, and is always trying to hone her approaches to better affirm those groups. Alex believes in a lived experience-informed, neurodiversity-affirming framework that also tries to acknowledge and mitigate the effects of trauma and systemic oppression.

Alex describes her therapeutic approach as “eclectic,” drawing from a variety of different methodologies including narrative therapy, somatic techniques, mindfulness, CBT, and DBT. She likes to have a varied toolbox of skills so she can keep her approach flexible and tailored to each individual person’s needs and preferences.

Alex received her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University of South Carolina and spent the last three and a half years providing trauma-focused telehealth therapy. She also has experience in community mental health and inpatient hospital settings. Alex has supported adults with a variety of concerns that include: trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout recovery, relationship issues, building self-esteem and self-compassion, and identity development. She also particularly enjoys helping neurodivergent people build greater understanding of the way their brains work and how they can better accommodate that.

Outside of work, Alex is a huge nerd who loves musical theater, jigsaw puzzles, board games, and artistic pursuits. She also loves animals, and has been getting into amateur bird-watching (ask her about the board game Wingspan and how it kicked off that particular interest).
