Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Accepting new clients - Telehealth & In-Person

Joshua Poirier (he/him) is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker dedicated to providing compassionate, client-centered, and evidence-informed psychotherapy to individuals and couples.

In his therapeutic practice, Joshua endeavours to promote a safe, warm, and affirming environment. He approaches clinical work through a non-pathologizing lens and values the knowledge, wisdom, and intuition accompanying clients’ lived experiences. He operates from a place of empathy, curiosity, and cultural humility when navigating every interaction.

Joshua is passionate about supporting clients with sexual health concerns, couples and relational challenges, gender-affirming care, men’s issues, trauma, and any co-occurring anxiety and depression that may accompany these topics. As a queer clinician, he is committed to supporting the mental health of the LGBTQ+ community, yet invites clients of any background to explore services.

In his commitment to providing the best mental health care, Joshua has completed an advanced certificate in sexual health and sex therapy at the University of Michigan. For individuals and couples wanting to address sexual health topics, he welcomes conversations related to non-monogamy/polyamory, intimacy/connection, sexual shame/empowerment, desire discrepancies and low desire, sexual functioning concerns, and trauma.

Joshua is knowledgeable in a variety of therapeutic modalities and believes in uniquely tailoring each experience in order to best support his clients. He will often integrate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing. In addition, he incorporates an ecological symptoms framework that considers the interplay between biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence a person’s mental health and well-being. At its core, Joshua’s approach is strengths-based and collaborative.

Outside of clinical work, Joshua enjoys traveling, being active outdoors, spending excessive money on books, watching cooking videos on YouTube, and romanticizing his morning coffee.
